How to set automated tags based on the tier or frequency the customer is subscribed to?

How does tagging my subscribers based on their tier or frequency help me?

  1. Clear Visibility of Customer Tiers: When you tag your members based on their membership tiers, it creates an easy-to-navigate framework that allows you to instantly identify any member's tier. This simplifies offering exclusive perks, as you can instantly determine who is eligible for what benefit.

  1. Automated Rewards Delivery: With automated tagging, you can configure your system to automatically deliver rewards, discounts, or exclusive content to specific tags. For example, you can set up a rule that automatically sends a discount code to all users tagged as 'Gold Tier' on their membership anniversary.

  2. Flexible Marketing Campaigns: Tags allow for the flexibility to adapt and change marketing campaigns to cater to specific tiers. For instance, if you wanted to increase engagement among 'Silver Tier' subscribers, you could create a campaign that specifically targets this group with tailored perks or incentives.

  3. Strengthen Customer Loyalty: When customers receive exclusive perks to their subscription level, they feel valued and appreciated. This can lead to increased brand loyalty and improved retention rates.

How to tag subscribers/members based on their tier or frequency?

You need to use an automation tool in Shopify to automatically tag your subscribers/members based on their tier or frequency. The easiest free tools you can use are:

  1. Shopify Marketing Automation

  2. Shopify Flow app *

* Shopify Flow is available only to the following:

  • stores that subscribe to the Shopify Plus, Advanced, or Shopify plans

  • stores that use the Shopify Fulfillment Network (SFN)

Tag customers automatically with the tier or frequency name

Follow these steps to create your automated tagging flow in Shopify Marketing Automation:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Marketing

  2. Click on Create Automation and then click on Create Custom Automation.

  3. Add the "subscription contract created" Trigger as your starting trigger.

  4. Click on the +icon on the starting trigger card and add an Action.

  5. From the right side menu, choose "Add customer tag".

  6. In the tag field, select the </> sign at the right.

  7. From the menu, choose "Subscription contract" > "lines" > "SellingPlanName". Hit Enter so the tag gets appears under the field.

The SellingPlanName is the "display name on widget" field that you have chosen in Subify, the name that appears on your subscription widget for the tiers of frequencies you have. Like; "Every 1 week" or "VIP tier" . In this step, we have set that this flow tags the customer with the name of the tier/frequency they are subscribed to. So you don't actually write the tags yourself; the tags are based on the names/frequencies you have chosen for each of your selling plans in Subify.

  8. To start the automation, click on Turn on Workflow. If you exit the workflow before turning it on, then it will save as a draft. You can return to this automation later by selecting it from the Marketing Automation page.

Once your automation is active, click on "Automation" from your Marketing page to see a summary of it and specific analytics.
