How to create a customer segment in Shopify

Before creating your emails, you need a customer segment that indicates customers who have already bought this product as a one-time purchase. You can build your own customer segments by combining filter names, operators, and values in the editor on the Customers page.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Customers.

  2. Click on Template:

  3. Click on Target purchase behavior.

  4. Find this template: Customers who have purchased specific products. Click on Use this template:

  5. Search for the product that you are offering a subscription option for them and select them:

  6. Click on Add another criteria.

  7. Select Product was purchased.

  8. Click Apply filter.
The customers who match the criteria are listed below the editor. The number of customers who match the criteria is displayed above the editor.

  9. Review the list of customers to verify that your customer segment works as expected, and then make any necessary changes.

  10. Click Save, and then enter a name for the segment.

  11. Click Save.

Shopify Email

The Shopify Email app is used to send an email marketing campaign to customers in a selected segment. If you don't have the Shopify Email app installed, then you're prompted to install it the first time that you attempt to send an email campaign.

Regulations:

Using Shopify email, you can only email people who opt-in to receive emails from your business. You will see those customers listed with an "Accepts marketing" indicator on their customer page. Customers can subscribe to marketing content by adding their contact information to a newsletter sign-up on your online store or by checking a checkbox in the checkout.

Note!
Shopify Email filters out any customers who do not accept email marketing from you; if you want to email all the existing customers, no matter if they've subscribed to your emails or not, you need to send your emails with a third-party email marketing app like Klavyio or subscribe all your customer to your marketing email manually in Shopify.

The rules, regulations, and laws surrounding spam, such as unsolicited emails sent in bulk, vary depending on your location. Make sure you are familiar with the laws in your region, state, and country before you begin an email marketing campaign.

How to send a converting email with Shopify:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Marketing.

  2. Click Create campaign > Shopify Email.

  3. Select a template, create an email from scratch.

  4. Write the content of the email.

  5. Click To, and then select the customer segment that matches your purpose.

  6. Enter a subject for the email.

  7. Send the email or schedule it to send at another time.
