Everything you need to know about Shipping for subscription products

Offering different shipping rates for subscriptions and one-time orders

You can set different shipping rates for subscribers compared to one-time product buyers. This guide shows how to set your shipping settings in Subify to offer subscription-specific rates.

Increasing control over shipping rates allows you to offer different shipping rates for subscription products and incentivizes customers to subscribe.

How it works?

One-time purchases are processed through your Shopify checkout and use Shopify's shipping settings. You can use Subify's Shipping Profile setting to create a subscription-specific profile and connect it with your selling plans on Subify.

You can use Subify's shipping profile settings to offer international, custom, price-based, weight-based, and/or free shipping rates for subscription products only.

  • If you already have shipping profiles set up in Shopify, this feature creates a distinct shipping profile that only applies to subscriptions.

  • The subscription shipping profile will not impact your existing shipping profiles.

  • Shipping profile rates are applied to both checkout and recurring charges.

Create a subscription Shipping Profile on Subify

  1. From your Subify panel, go to the Settings tab.

  2. Navigate to Shipping > Custom shipping profile.

  3. Click on the Create new shipping profile link.

  4. Select a Shipping profile name and click on Done.
(This name will help you recognize this shipping profile on Shopify)

  5. A new Shipping profile will be created for you.

  6. On the created profile, press 'Edit'
(which takes you to Shipping and delivery settings on Shopify).

  7. Set your preferred rates and zones.

    * DO NOT add any products directly to the profile in this step.

  8. Come back to your Subify panel > your Shipping Profile and click on Add plan.

  9. Add your desired subscription plans to this profile.

Editing a shipping profile is only available when the subscription plan is not added to it.

If you want to edit a Shipping Profile in Subify, you need to disconnect it from your subscription plan, edit it, and then add the subscription plan again:

On your Shopify checkout page, customers will see separate shipping sections for one-time purchases and subscriptions.

Separate shipping rates will apply to checkout and recurring orders.

Limitations

Shopify checkout, by default, displays the cheapest shipping option for subscriptions at checkout. So you can not offer multiple shipping options for subscription products:

- The choice between home delivery and pickup

- The choice between different shipping vendors

- The choice between slower and faster shipping methods

- The choice of your favorite pickup place

Local delivery and pick-up

You can offer shipping, local delivery, or pickup at checkout after you enable this feature on Shopify. The settings for pickup and local delivery in your Shopify store decide the delivery options offered to customers at checkout.

For activating this feature, refer to Shopify's articles on local delivery and pickup:

Once this feature is turned on in Shopify, pickup and local delivery will become available for all new eligible checkout orders. The chosen delivery method will be applied to recurring orders as well.

Offer Free Shipping on subscription orders

This guide shows how to offer Free Shipping for subscription products only and incentivizes customers to subscribe with this perk.

Set subscription free Shipping on Subify

  1. From your Subify panel, go to the Settings tab.

  2. Navigate to Shipping > Free shipping.

  3. Click on the Add Plans link.

  4. Add your desired subscription plans to the free shipping profile.
