Subify’s Membership Plan gives you the tools to create flexible and recurring memberships on your store. With customizable billing intervals, free trial periods, and multi-tier options, you can tailor membership offerings to meet a range of customer needs. Subify also lets you automatically apply custom tags to your members, making it easy to target specific groups and manage unique perks for each membership tier.
Subify’s membership widgets seamlessly integrate on product pages and landing pages, allowing customers to explore and subscribe to memberships from anywhere on your store. With Subify’s Membership Plan, you’re set up to build a loyal customer community and enjoy steady, recurring revenue.
How to Create a Membership Plan in Subify
Follow these steps to set up a membership plan:
Step1: Select Membership
In your Subify dashboard, go to the Plans tab.
Click on Create New Plan.
From the modal, choose Membership and click Select.
Step2: Fill Out Membership Details
On the Membership Plan creation page, you’ll see several fields that need to be completed to define your membership plan. Here’s an overview:
Note: When creating a membership plan, Subify automatically creates a new product in your Shopify store with the details you enter here. Currently, due to the beta status, you cannot link pre-existing products to a membership plan. Only new products specific to this membership plan will be created.
Name: Enter a name for your membership plan, like “Premium Access” or “Gold Membership.”
Description (optional): Briefly describe what’s included in this membership.
Media (optional): Add an image that represents the membership plan.
Step3: Set the Membership Structure
Important: The membership structure (Single-Tier or Multi-Tier) cannot be changed once selected.
Choose between Single-Tier or Multi-Tier membership:
Single-Tier: One level of membership with the same benefits for all members.
Multi-Tier: Multiple membership levels with different billing options.
You can add up to 4 tiers to your membership plan.
Based on your selected structure, define each tier by adding the following details:
1-Month Price:
When setting up either single-tier or multi-tier memberships, you need to specify the 1-Month Price. This represents the cost if a customer were to have the membership for just one month. The billing interval prices will be calculated as multiples of this one-month price.
Note: In the current beta version of the membership plan, only monthly-based billing frequencies can be offered, such as 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, up to 12 months. Therefore, setting an accurate one-month price is essential as it will be the basis for all available billing intervals.
Tags:
Single-Tier Membership: The specified tag will be added to any customer who subscribes to this membership, helping you identify and manage your members.
Multi-Tier Membership: Each tier can have its own unique tag. This allows you to differentiate members based on their tier, set up specific perks for each tier, or segment members for targeted marketing. For example, you might use different tags to apply exclusive perks to certain tiers or to organize and target members in different tiers for promotions and communications.
Name (only available in Multi-tier):
The name of your membership tiers, presented to your customers, e.g., Bronze, Silver, Gold
Benefit (only available in Multi-tier):
Highlight what makes each tier unique by listing the perks and exclusive features members receive. This could include benefits like special discounts, early access to products, or personalized services. Let customers know the value they’ll gain by subscribing to this tier.
Step4: One-Time Purchase Option
On the membership creation page, you’ll find an option for One-Time Purchase. If enabled, customers will be able to purchase the membership as a one-time product. If disabled, the membership will only be available as a subscription, following the billing intervals you’ve set.
Step5: Configure Billing Intervals
Set the billing interval for the membership (e.g., Monthly). For each billing interval in the membership plan, the price is calculated as a multiple of the One-Month Price. For example, if the billing frequency is set to "every 3 months," the price will be calculated as the one-month price multiplied by three.
You can add up to 3 billing intervals for your membership, and they will be available for all your membership tiers.
You also have the option to apply a percentage discount to the calculated price for each interval.
Currently, only percentage discounts are available in membership plans—fixed amount or flat rate discounts are not yet supported.
Other features of billing intervals in membership plans function similarly to the billing options in the "Subscribe & Save" plans, ensuring a consistent experience across different types of subscription plans. Learn more
When you add a new billing interval, you can view a preview of the membership widget directly in the billing interval modal. This widget displays the calculated prices for different intervals based on the one-month price and selected frequency, giving you a clear view of how the pricing will appear to customers.
Step6: Add Free Trial
You can set a free trial period for the membership, choosing a duration based on multiples of days (e.g., 7 days, 14 days). Here’s how it works:
When a customer subscribes to a membership with a trial period, a membership contract is created in their account, and an order is generated in the merchant’s Shopify admin. However, the order amount will be zero, meaning the customer is not charged at this time.
Once the trial period ends (e.g., after 7 days), the customer is automatically billed for the full membership price.
If the customer decides to cancel or pause their membership contract during the trial period, no charges will be made once the trial ends, and the contract will remain inactive.
This approach ensures that the free trial is managed smoothly, giving customers the flexibility to try the membership before committing to payments.
Step7: Final Preview and Creating the Membership Plan
In addition to the preview available in the billing interval modal, a final preview of the membership widget is displayed on the main membership plan creation page. Once all settings are configured, you can review this preview to confirm that everything appears as expected.
When satisfied with the setup:
Click Create Plan.
Subify will create a new product in the merchant’s Shopify store with the membership plan’s details, and the product’s status will be set to live. If desired, you can set the product to draft status.
mportant: After the membership plan is created, the product in Shopify should not be directly edited for certain fields, such as Price, Variants, or other billing-related attributes, as these settings are managed within Subify. However, you can edit media elements (e.g., add or change images) directly in Shopify, along with general appearance details like the description, name, vendor, and tags as needed.
Step8: Adding and Customizing the Membership Widget
Product page widget
After the membership product is created, you can see the membership widget on the product page.
If the widget is not added automatically, follow these steps to add the membership product page widget block:
On your Shopify admin panel, go to Online store > Themes.
Click on Customize to open the Theme Customization page.
Add the Membership Widget Block to the desired product template.
Customize the display and setup as needed within the widget block settings.
In the current beta version, customization options for this widget are limited within the Subify panel. However, you can add the Membership Widget Block to your product page through the Shopify theme customization settings. From there, you can adjust the content displayed within the widget block directly.
Landing page widget
In addition to the product page widget, you also have the option to add a Membership Landing Widget to any page, such as the homepage or other landing pages.
This widget shows all membership options, including the product name, billing intervals, and an Add to Cart button. This feature allows customers to directly subscribe to a membership from any page where the widget is placed.
To add the landing widget:
On your Subify panel, go to the Widgets tab and eable the Homepage widget setting.
On your Shopify admin panel, go to Online store > Themes.
Click on Customize to open the Theme Customization page.
Add the Membership Section Block to the desired product template.
Add your desired Product for which the widget must be shown.
Customize the display and setup as needed within the widget block settings.
This flexibility enables you to showcase membership options across various parts of your store, making it easy for customers to explore and subscribe directly from different pages.
Step8: Configure exclusive perks
To provide exclusive access or other perks to members, you may need to integrate Subify with other apps that offer these features.
